GSCE and A-Level Introduction Courses
Are you about to start your GCSE or A-Level Photography course?
Do you know what to expect? Are you confident using a camera? Can you analyse a photograph, research artists and present your coursework clearly?
My 5-hour Introduction to Photography course is designed for students who are preparing to begin GCSE Photography, A-Level Photography or a similar Art and Design Photography course. It is ideal if you have never used a camera before, feel unsure about how to read a photograph, or simply want to build confidence before your course begins.
Photography courses are creative, practical and coursework-led. Students are often expected to explore camera techniques, composition, artist research, image analysis, editing, presentation and personal project development. This short course gives you a supportive introduction to those essential skills so that you can begin your school or college course feeling more prepared, confident and ready to learn.
The course can be delivered one-to-one or as part of a small group and is suitable for complete beginners as well as students who already enjoy photography but want a clearer understanding of what will be expected at GCSE or A-Level.
Across five one-hour sessions, we will cover:
Course structure: understanding what GCSE and A-Level Photography courses usually involve
Reading a photograph: learning how to analyse images, composition, meaning and visual choices
Artist research: how to respond to photographers and use research to develop your own ideas
Composition basics: simple techniques to make your photographs stronger and more intentional
Structuring and presenting coursework: how to organise your work clearly and creatively
Camera function and operation: understanding the basic settings, controls and practical use of your camera
By the end of the course, you will have a stronger understanding of photography as a subject, a clearer idea of what to expect from your GCSE or A-Level course, and the confidence to begin your studies one step ahead.
This course is particularly useful for students starting GCSE Photography, A-Level Photography, Level 2 or Level 3 Photography, Art and Design Photography, or creative media courses where photographic work, research and visual presentation are required.
You do not need a camera to take part in this course, a smart phone with a camera will be sufficient.
